Is It a Bit Early to Be Talking About My Wishes for the Pixel Watch 2? Google Pixel Watch

There’s been a lot of talk lately about the second-generation Google Pixel Watch getting a Snapdragon chip which in return will improve the battery performance of the watch.

While this is just a rumour, it got me thinking.

I’ve been using the first-generation Google Pixel Watch as my daily driver for almost 6-months and there is definitely room for improvement.

I mean, don’t get me wrong I absolutely love the watch and it performs well in my everyday life, but there definitely is room for improvement. Those who’ve read my post on how the watch performs in my everyday life will know what I’m talking about.

That’s why I decided to share the things I think should be changed or improved with the Pixel Watch 2, starting with the battery life.

Better Battery

In terms of the battery life, I don’t really see it as a problem in my everyday life, the watch is definitely lasting me throughout the day and I also get enough battery to track my sleep during the night.

In all fairness, it does depend on your charging routine, I tend to put the watch on the charger while I get ready for the day ahead. This leaves me with enough battery life for the day and night until I restart the process the following morning.

With that being said, I would love the battery to be better on the next generation as it will provide me with more confidence that the watch will last throughout a busy day.

For example, during the weekends, I love going on long cycle rides in the British countryside and I tend to use the built-in Fitbit functionality to track my ride. It hasn’t been an issue for me as of yet, but I do worry that if I go on a ride that’s longer than 4 hours the battery will run out on me.

That brings me to my next point, charging.

More Ways To Charge the Watch

At present, I charge my watch using the charger that came with it. I decided to purchase a rubber stand which sits next to my Pixel Charging Stand. It’s a great little addition. But that’s not the point I’m trying to make.

I would love for the watch to be compatible with other wireless chargers! But I want to take it a step further.

I think that the second-generation Pixel Watch should be compatible with the Battery Share feature on my Google Pixel 7 Pro and any other compatible phone.

How cool would that be! I really think it was a missed opportunity with the first generation of watches.

Improved Performance

Performance is another area where I haven’t really had an issue, but on rare occasions, I have experienced the interface being stuttery.

Outside of that with the way things are going, it would be good to give the watch a bit of a performance boost for future-proofing the watch to more demanding apps.

I think if Google does use a more up-to-date and powerful chip the issue will be sorted, but having used the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, I still feel that the overall WearOS experience is better on the Pixel Watch.

Improved Google App Support

This isn’t really something related to the watch itself, but I would love to see Google release more apps by the time the Pixel Watch 2 is released.

I know I said it in the past, but I would love to see more Google Workspace apps such as Google Tasks and Gmail being natively supported on the watch.

To be honest, I would love it if more mainstream apps supported the platform in general. But it is what it is for the time being. I’m thrilled to see WhatsApp working on a solution for WearOS. I mean it tends to be quite widely used here in the UK.

Improved Health Tracking

Another area I feel needs to be improved is health tracking. When I initially discovered that Google acquired Fitbit, I knew that something was brewing along the lines of Google releasing a watch.

Fast forward a few years and we have a truly stunning watch. I mean, I’ve owned many smartwatches over the years and while I feel the Apple Watch is best in terms of functionality, it’s the pixel watch that looks the nicest.

Back to the topic at hand, I definitely think Fitbit should be improved, not only on the watch itself but in general. I feel that the current subscription is a bit too pricy for what you get and on top of that, I feel that it’s a bit too basic on the watch.

Final Thoughts

To summarise this article, I’m a huge fan of the Google Pixel Watch and I’m ashamed to admit that I was very hesitant about buying the watch initially. In fact, I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, which is another brilliant watch!

But I feel that I’m making the most out of the Google Pixel Watch, I mean it really is a joy to use. If Google decides to release a second version of this watch, I just know it will be so much better!

Thinking about it, it would be nice to see them release a Pro version of the watch aimed at activity-tracking and the outdoors. I think I would definitely buy it!
