In recent months, the Pixel Watch has made plenty of headlines, and rightly so! I mean, for the first time ever, Google is releasing a smartwatch to match their ecosystem and on top of that, it’s rumoured to have Fitbit integration!

The Pixel Watch has been so widely leaked and advertised, it almost makes you wonder whether it’s a marketing scheme, a pretty good one at that. But it has given me a lot of time to think about whether as a Pixel 6 Pro user, I should spend my well-earned cash on Google’s first attempt at a smartwatch.

Now don’t get me wrong, judging by the photos that are in circulation, the watch looks absolutely stunning, even though I had doubts about the style when it was first leaked. I could say the same about the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro models, which I had doubts about initially, but I fell in love with the designs after actually using them and seeing how they function.

If Not The Pixel Watch, Than What?

For the past 6-months, I’ve been driving the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra daily, which, I think, is an absolutely brilliant watch. You can check out my 6-month review here:

TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra 6-Month Review

The Pro 3 Ultra is a great watch which came with me on many adventures, including a 60-mile cycle ride. It has lasted me out in the wilderness and several trips including, this year’s holiday, or as you call it in the States, Vacation.

The battery has been great and so have the results it produced during GPS activities, because of this, the watch will always have a special place in my heart.

As much as I like the watch, I think it’s now time to move on, and I’ve really had my heart set on the Pixel Watch, knowing the rumours about old hardware being used and that the battery wasn’t going to last long.

I guess the final straw, was when the price was leaked. I just couldn’t justify spending that much on a smartwatch when Samsung’s version is considerably cheaper and the specs seem substantially better.

So earlier, this week I put my order through for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, the 44 mm in Graphite to be exact.

But What About The Pixel Watch?

Earlier in this article, I mentioned that I really had my heart set on the Pixel Watch, which is true, and I still do to some extent. Yet, judging by the experience I’ve had with my Pixel 6 Pro in the first couple of months, I think that it will be worth waiting a while to give Google the time to perfect the watch.

At the same time, I think that I still will be purchasing the watch at a later date, hopefully, by then the prices will drop.

Buying the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 will not only provide me with first-hand experience of using both watches, but it will also provide me with the opportunity to compare them.

Summary

To conclude this article, I think that Google really does have potential here, and I’m seriously hoping that this will turn into something new that many enjoy using for years to come. I seriously hope that it won’t end like Stadia and many other unsuccessful projects have.

But at the same time, we as the public really need to make our voice heard so that Google listens to what we as consumers want. That will give them the opportunity to perfect their products and ecosystem even more!
