Over the years, I’ve tried many different brands and types of earbuds, but the Soundpeats POP Clip are a first for me, and these aren’t just normal earbuds.

What sets the Soundpeats POP Clip apart from others is that they feature an open-ear design, making them ideal for running or cycling outdoors, as they don’t go fully into your ear.

I’m a big fan of the open ear design, especially from the point of view of a runner, as it allows me to listen to music whilst being able to hear the traffic around me.

I’ve been using the Soundpeats Pop Clip for around a week, and I tried them out in a number of scenarios, including working at my desk, running, and cycling. Read on to find out how they coped and whether I think they’re worth it.

✅ Things I Like

  • Open-Ear design
  • Stylish case design
  • Comfortable to wear, even when wearing glasses
  • Reasonable price
  • Good sound quality considering open-ear design
  • Can connect to 2 devices at the same time

❌ Things I’m Unsure About

  • Bass could be improved
  • PeatsAudio app requires an account

How I tested the Soundpeats POP Clip and how they coped

I wanted to start this review by explaining how I reviewed the Soundpeats POP Clip, as I feel it is important, particularly if you are considering buying these.

To get a picture of what these are like, I used the Soundpeats POP Clip as my primary earbuds for a week, and during that week I put them through a number of scenarios.

I wanted to start with cycling, as one of the main issues I had with other open-ear headphones and earbuds was that when I had my sunglasses on, wearing earbuds or headphones that go over my ears was uncomfortable, especially when wearing a helmet. As the Soundpeats POP Clip doesn’t go over the top of my ears where my sunglasses rest, I found these very comfortable to wear. Speaking about cycling, I don’t like or recommend cycling on the road with earbuds in, as it can be dangerous. But I tested these on a quiet off-road track.

Speaking about outdoor sports, I also took these running with me, and they proved to be very comfortable to wear during my run, and they didn’t fall out of my ears, which is always a bonus. These earbuds feature bidirectional wind noise cancellation, which Soundpeats claims can cancel out the wind by 25%. I find this to be ideal for running and cycling, especially when it’s windy. During my tests I was able to hear music without many wind disruptions, but I must say that I didn’t yet have a chance to test these on a windy day.

I also tested these while working at my desk and office, and I was able to hear my colleagues and have conversations with others.

Sound quality

More importantly, let’s talk about the sound quality. The Soundpeats POP Clip have a 10.8mm dual magnetic driver, and based on my listening experience, they sound very reasonable considering the price and open-ear design.

When it comes to sound, I like to be able to hear all the instruments and a punchy bass. Based on my experience, the sound tends to be clear when listening to music, and the bass is punchy. However, they can sound tinny on some songs.

But considering the price, that’s acceptable, as overall, they sound pretty good for the price. Having tested several earbuds in this price range, they actually sound good for the price.

Over the years, I’ve tried several open-ear earbuds and headphones at various price ranges, and one thing I’ve learnt is that open-ear earbuds and headphones generally offer a good, but not always exceptional, sound quality as they prioritise situational awareness and comfort. This means that you may see compromises in bass and overall loudness in these types of earbuds, especially when compared to in-ear or over-ear headphones.

But I think it’s fair to say that sound quality-wise, the sound these produce is actually quite good compared to other models I tried. I think the main reason for that is that they sit in the right part of my ear, pointing the sound directly into my ear canal whilst not covering it, ensuring that they don’t cover up my ear.

In terms of sound leakage, I’m surprised that they don’t leak too much sound compared to other open-ear headphones I tried, especially at lower volumes. However, when listening to loud music, they do tend to leak a bit, but it just means that the person sitting next to you may hear your music. I would say that the sound leakage is acceptable considering the open-ear design.

I’ve spoken a lot about music, so let’s talk about vocals. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts, and I think that these deliver vocals pretty well.

Design: Great first impressions (Love the detail)

Starting with the case, the case is made of plastic and feels pretty standard, but that’s to be expected considering the price of the product.

What sets this case apart is the detail; when I open the case, I get treated to the Soundpeats catchphrase written in a premium-looking font. I know it’s only a small thing, but it makes the earbuds seem more premium.

At the back of the device, you’ll find the Soundpeats logo and a USB-C charging port.

I like that you can simply place the earbuds into the charging case without having to distinguish between left and right earbuds. Soundpeats claims that you can simply place them in the lid, and they will start charging. on top of that, they claim that you can close the lid for 10 seconds, and they will self-adjust their left and right channels, which I think is pretty cool.

Moving on to the earbuds themselves, I like the Soundpeats logo on the larger part of the earbud. I know that it’s only a small thing, but it makes the device look cooler.

Each earbud has a button on the larger part; if you press it once, it will adjust the volume, a double tap pauses, and a triple tap starts Siri on my iPhone.

Battery life

While I have been using these for around a week, I haven’t had a chance to fully run them down in one go, and I think that’s brilliant, as it shows just how good the battery life is with daily use.

Soundpeats claims that they can deliver a total of 30 hours of playtime, with 8 hours on a single charge.

They also feature a 15-minute quick charge option, which will give you 3 hours of playtime.

Combining 8 hours of playtime on a single charge and the 15-minute quick charge option, I think that these have huge potential.

I can definitely see myself taking these out with me on long hikes for that reason.

The App

The PeatsAudio app looks basic, but that’s a good thing, as it makes it simpler and easier to use.

When opening the app for the first time, it requires you to create an account, a requirement that many brands have. I don’t really have an issue with it, but I’m not sure whether it’s needed.

On the home page, the app has four big buttons allowing you to toggle between Game Mode and Normal Mode, another button for movie mode, dynamic EQ, as well as a button that allows you to customise controls.

On the second page, you get an EQ test for the adaptive EQ as well as a whole bunch of presets; you also get an option to create your own.

The last page features a link to the store and an FAQ section, a feedback section, an about the app section, as well as settings. You also have a help and contact section as well as user manuals.

The app also allows you to perform firmware updates, and it has a handy Find Earbuds feature, which allows you to find both earbuds individually.

Overall, the app is basic and not complicated to use.

Other Features

One of my favourite features of the Soundpeats POP Clip is the ability to connect them to two devices at the same time.

I think that this is a fantastic feature to include with earbuds at this price range, especially as there are many considerably more expensive earbuds that don’t have this feature.

I think that this is an excellent feature for work. I’m currently at my desk writing this blog post, at the same time, I’m listening to soundscapes using an app called Endel. If a friend decides to send me a video, I can open that video on my phone without having to remove the earbuds, as the sound from the video will play on the earbuds automatically.

Who these are for

Based on my week with the Soundpeats POP Clip, I think that they are ideal for anyone who needs situational awareness.

As a sporty person, I think that these are great for running, as they don’t fall out when running, and they proved great when cycling on trails, as I could hear everything around me.

As an outdoor person, I think that they are great for hiking too, as you can hear all the nature around you whilst getting motivated to go further with a good hiking playlist.

I also think that they are great for someone who likes listening to music in the background while having conversations.

One thing to bear in mind is that these earbuds don’t go directly into your ears, sealing the gap between the earbud and your ear canal. Due to this design, you lose that quality you’ll find in in-ear earbuds. But don’t let that put you off, as I think these sound really good considering the open ear design.

Conclusion

To conclude this review, I think that these are a fantastic set of earbuds at a very reasonable price.

Throughout the week, I’ve used these as my everyday drivers for running and walking and when at home, and based on my experience, I think they coped really well.

On top of that, I think that they are light and comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, especially when wearing glasses.

If you’re looking for affordable, comfortable open-ear earbuds that work well with an active, outdoor lifestyle, the Soundpeats POP Clip might just be the perfect fit.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Based on my overall experience with these, I am giving them a total of 4 out of 5 stars. This rating is based on my views of the sound quality, comfort, battery life, features, value for money, and design and build quality.
