Is Bublup the BEST Pocket Alternative?

Home » Blog » Apps and Software » Is Bublup the BEST Pocket Alternative?

Pocket has long been a go-to app for saving articles, videos, and web pages to enjoy later. It was a fantastic tool that for many was the one-stop destination for reading engaging content, catching up on blog posts and news sources and more.

Unfortunately, Pocket is shutting down on the 8th of July 2025, but fear not, I have an alternative app that I’ve been using for almost two years, Bublup.

In this post, I’ll walk you through why I believe Bublup might be the best replacement and show you how effortless it is to switch over.

So, without any further ado…

Pocket in a Nutshell

Pocket was one of those apps that just worked really well for its purpose. You’d find something interesting online, such as an article or video and with one tap, it was saved for later. No fuss, no distractions, just a clean space to keep youthful digital finds.

Best of all, Pocket allowed you to organise your saves into Collections and tags, making it easier to find the content you want to consume.

Pocket also had some other great features, such as the ability to read articles offline, as well as the ability to listen to articles.

As good as that sounds, Pocket had its limits, for starters, it was mostly built around text, so not ideal for saving images, files or mixed media. I always felt a need to upload some media like a screenshot/photo or a video or a PDF document to collocate with my bookmarks. Sharing and collaboration weren’t really part of the experience, either. That’s one area where Bublup shines!

Speaking of which…

Meet Bublup

If Pocket was all about simplicity, Bublup is all about flexibility and some pretty cool features. For starters, it’s not just a read-it-later app — it’s a full-blown content organiser that lets you save pretty much anything! Links, files, images, videos, notes and more! It even allows you to make to-do lists and collaborate with others. It also gives you an excellent way of sharing your stuff.

Bublup allows users to save content using One-click saving from the mobile app, browser extension or simply by dragging and dropping things to the web app.

I’ve spoken about this a lot in previous articles and rightly so as the collaboration features are pretty awesome! I mean, If you want to, you can share a folder which others can comment and interact with. For example, if I want to share family recipes, I can share a link to the folder which others can interact with and provide their opinions about. I find that this feature works great when collaborating with others online.

Or, I can create a Roll, which is a quick web page from a folder or a set of folders. I use Rolls a lot on my website. One of my newest Rolls is my everyday tech carry, which can be found here. This web page took a few minutes to create and less than 20 minutes to customise and edit. But even in its default settings, it looked really cool.

In terms of other features, you have the ability to create quick notes and to-do lists within the notes. Instead of saving plain lists, you get folders with custom images, which allows you to organise and colour code folders. You also get cross-platform support. Bublup is available in the browser, mobile, and it has a pretty handy Chrome and Edge extension which allows you to easily add links.

Based on my experience, I think that it’s a bit of a Swiss Army knife for content, and if you’re the kind of person who likes things to look good and stay organised, Bublup might just be your new favourite app.

Head-to-Head Comparison

So how does Bublup stack up against Pocket? Let’s break it down:

In short: Pocket was brilliant for reading and saving articles. Bublup goes the extra mile as it’s effectively a visual organiser, a collaboration tool, and a content hub rolled into one. If you are looking for something more flexible and creative, Bublup might be the upgrade you didn’t know you needed.

Who Is Bublup Best For?

Based on my personal experience, I think Bublup is great for everyone! Last year, we used it to plan Christmas. I had family members save inspiration for gifts, food, and even recipes, and it worked incredibly well. Last summer, we used it for planning our holidays (or vacation if you are in the United States), and it proved extremely useful.

As a blogger, I use Bublup for many things, I’ve already talked about Rolls, but outside of that, I use Bublup to save links to articles I may want to read later. I also use it for inspiration and times when I want to write my own take on articles. I also use Bublup in my personal life, such as saving recipes, trip details and more. The uses for Bublup are endless and as a paying customer, I couldn’t recommend it enough!

Bublup works great if you are a content creator as you can organise assets, save inspiration and even share your portfolios.

It works great if you are a team, as you can share folders and comment and interact with the things you save inside the folders.

But most importantly of all, it’s great for people who want to save and organise links and all sorts of content to consume at a later time.

How to migrate from Pocket to Bublup

Bublup has made it super-easy for you to import your data from Pocket and best of all, it’s superfast!

In my view, the easiest way of importing into Bublup is by using the Bublup Browser extension. Which when you’re on your saves page has an option to import directly into Bublup.

To import, you simply click the “Import into Bublup” button and follow the steps and your stuff will be imported into Bublup. You can then organise everything to how you want it.

You can also import your Pocket export zip file directly from Bublup, simply go to your Bublup home page, then go to the menu, Import, From Pocket and import the Zip file.

Final Thoughts

Pocket was a solid companion for saving things to read later, and it was extremely useful to me when I was at university. But with its shutdown just around the corner, it’s time to move on.

Based on my experience with Bublup, I believe that it feels more than just a replacement. I believe that it’s a smarter, more flexible way to organise everything you care about online. On top of that, it has some fantastic collaboration and sharing features.

From visual folders to collaboration tools and sharable Rolls, Bublup offers features that Pocket never touched. It’s not just for readers, it’s for creators, organisers, and anyone who loves keeping their digital life organised.

So if you’re looking for your next content-saving home, Bublup might just surprise you. I’ve been using it as a paying customer for nearly two years, and I haven’t looked back.

Give it a go and let me know what you think! And before I forget, by simply using the Import from Pocket option once, you will earn a 30-day promotion for the premium plan.
