Practicality is key!

I’ve tried and reviewed many wireless earbuds over the last couple of years, but when it comes to work, one set of earbuds stands out from the crowd, the Google Pixel Buds Pro.

These remarkable earbuds have quickly become my go-to choice for work, and in this article, we’ll discuss the reason.

But first, I wanted to explain that as someone who’s had the opportunity to test a wide variety of earbuds, I understand that not every set of earbuds is ideal for everything. For example, as of now my favorite earbuds for active noise cancellation happen to be the Soundcore Liberty 4 NC.

But to me, the Google Pixel Buds Pro are great all-rounders that just keep getting better!

But without any further ado, here are the reasons I think the Google Pixel Buds Pro are ideal for the workplace…

1. Multi-Point Bluetooth

Multi-point Bluetooth is a feature that I cannot live without now that I’ve used it. For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, it basically allows me to connect my earbuds to my laptop and my phone at the same time.

Using multi-point I can work on my laptop and when a call comes in on my phone, I can answer it without taking my earbuds out or pairing my earbuds to my phone instead of my laptop.

As someone who spends a lot of time working on his laptop, answering calls, and attending meetings, I find this feature to be essential for my workflow.

Multi-point Bluetooth can be beneficial in a number of other scenarios such as learning. I often learn on my laptop, whilst listening to background music, but I may want to check something on my phone, such as a video that may aid my learning and development.

Multi-point connectivity has worked really well for me on the Pixel Buds Pro. It seems to work better than on other models

As a whole, I feel that using multi-point earbuds has seriously improved my productivity, especially since I don’t have to worry about disconnecting my earbuds from my phone and connecting them to my laptop.

2. Active Noise-Cancellation

I’ve already talked about active noise cancellation (ANC) at the start of this article. I remember the first time I tried ANC earbuds for writing university assignments and in general life. I seriously found it difficult to go back to any other standard earbuds as they are so useful!

Active Noise Cancellation earbuds are great for work, especially if you primarily work from a laptop as they allow you to switch off from all the distractions around you, whether you are working from home or in the office.

ANC on the Google Pixel Buds Pro is very reasonable and they cope really well with blocking out noise in the office. But having tried other earbuds such as the Soundcore Liberty 4 NC, I feel that Google seriously needs to improve ANC in the next version of the Pixel Buds Pro.

ANC is also great if you commute to and from work using public transport. Whether you’re on a busy bus or train, it can get pretty loud. ANC earbuds can be great in this scenario as they allow you to get some peace making you feel relaxed before work or after a busy day at work.

3. Transparency Mode & Conversation Detection

Moving on to transparency mode, The Google Pixel Buds Pro also offers a pretty decent transparency mode which I’ve set to be activated by holding the right earbud. It comfortably allows me to have conversations with colleagues or buy a coffee in the cafe without taking my earbuds out.

But it gets better!

With a recent update, Google introduced a new feature that I haven’t seen before on any other earbuds. It’s called Conversation Detection and it basically automatically switches from ANC mode to Transparency mode when it detects that you are talking.

I think that this is a brilliant feature that I found myself using a lot at work when listening to music and a colleague walks over to ask a question. I think it works really well, maybe even too well!

It’s also great for those people who like to sing along when a good tune comes on but they forget that they’re in the office as it turns on transparency mode and pauses the music.

But that can become an issue when you’re at home and you want to sing along to your favorite tracks. Luckily, it’s something that you can control in the app or the Bluetooth menu if you are using a Google Pixel Phone.

4. They’re Portable

I don’t know about you, but when I go into the office I don’t want to carry a lot with me. I know the benefits of using overhead headphones, but sometimes it’s just nice to not have to worry about carrying a lot of large bulky items.

Earbuds are great for this, especially in my career field as an IT engineer as sometimes I need to go on a call when I’m out in the field, and being able to get my earbuds from my pocket can seriously be a lifesaver!

I know that this is true for every set of wireless earbuds, but since we’re talking about work, I wanted to leave this in as it seriously can make a difference to some.

Speaking about portability, do you know when you get a notification on your phone, but you’re out walking or commuting and don’t want to take your phone out of your pocket, the Pixel Buds Pro can read out that notification simply by long pressing the left earbud. They also work with Google Assistant!

Both of these features combined are also great for working at your desk but you don’t want to use your phone as it’s a potential distraction, especially if you’re like me and once you’re on your phone, you find it difficult to put it down again.

5. They Sound Great!

I know that this is something I mention a lot in my YouTube videos, but sound quality can be dependent on how you like your sound, what may sound good for some may sound bad for others.

This is something I first discovered in my part-time student job selling headphones in a major tech store. I love there to be a decent amount of bass but I also like to be able to hear all the instruments clearly. However, some customers hated the bass and preferred the sound to be more flat.

The Pixel Buds Pro have a pretty decent equalizer which includes basic options such as Heavy Bass or you can customise your own sound profile.

I tend to leave them set to Heavy Bass, and that gives me extra bass as well as clear sound, you can really feel those thumps in that setting.

But I wouldn’t say that they sound that good for all types of music, that’s just something I’ve noticed as a bit of an audiophile.

But you’re probably wondering why the sound quality is important for work, well…

If you have a long task that you need to get on with, decent-sounding music along with a work playlist can seriously help you focus and work distraction-free.

Wrapping up

I’ve had the Google Pixel Buds Pro for over a year and during that time I’ve tested a lot of earbuds. But for some reason, I keep going back to the Google Pixel Buds Pro as my everyday drivers.

Which I find strange as I have earbuds with much better sound quality and ANC, but I guess that at the end of the day, it’s all about practicality and the Pixel Buds Pro are very practical in everyday life and that’s why I like them so much.

I am seriously looking forward to seeing what Google comes up with when they release the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 and I’m also hoping that they bring out overhead headphones one day!
