Chromebooks Are Surprisingly Good!

The Google Pixel Tablet is undoubtedly one of the coolest tablets on the market. I seriously believe that Google has got the whole dock thing right, especially for home users.

I mean put it this way, the majority of people that I know, use their smartphones for absolutely everything and while they have tablets they often remain unused and forgotten about.

But with Google’s new concept, the Pixel tablet can not only be used as a device to control your smart home but when you do need to use it, it will always be charged by the dock, ready to go. How cool is that?

I honestly believe that this new tablet is a game-changer for home use!

So Why Did I Decide to Get a Chromebook Instead?

After praising the concept of the new Pixel Tablet, you’re probably wondering why I decided to go with a Chromebook instead. The short answer is that I don’t think it’s ready for my needs.

I fear that if I buy the tablet, it will just sit there unused. I mean, I’m a huge fan of my iPad, I love the Apple Pencil as well as the Paperlike screen protector I use with it.

My iPad is my main device for a number of things including taking handwritten notes, which is an area I don’t think Google has examined just yet, but I would like to see them go in that direction.

Having owned a Chromebook a long time ago, I’ve been thinking about getting a new one for a while. I guess I wanted to see how they’ve improved over the years.

On top of that, I tend to spend a lot of time writing blog posts on the go, I work from cafes, on the train, and even while waiting for the train. A small laptop with a decent battery fits the bill perfectly here.

Combine the two together, a Chromebook is a great solution for my needs! I went with the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 360, which I got through my network provider at a pretty reasonable deal.

I guess I liked the fact that I can put a sim card inside of the device and not have to worry about using public WiFi hotspots.

What About the New Pixel Tablet?

To be truthfully honest, I could always get a Bluetooth keyboard which I can connect wirelessly to the Pixel Tablet, but I feel that that defeats the point in some way.

I mean I wanted to get a Chromebook, but I would love to have a Pixel Tablet, it’s just that I don’t see how having a Google Pixel Tablet will benefit me more than a Chromebook for the purpose of writing blog posts.

I don’t know whether I will be getting the Google Pixel Tablet any time soon, I mean I tend to use my iPad for everything else. But with that being said, I do see the Pixel Tablet as an ideal device to have in the living room on the stand to use as a family device.

I am also starting to look at upgrading my smart home, at present we have several Amazon Echo’s doted around the house, but these are now starting to show their age, and I’m thinking of replacing them with the Google alternative.

This will work out very nicely if I eventually get the Pixel Tablet as it can become the main device and controller for my other smart home devices.

Final Thoughts

To summarise this blog post, I think I’ve made the right decision in choosing a Chromebook and I can’t get over how smooth the overall user experience is.

In all fairness, I won’t truly know what I’ve missed out on without actually trying out the Pixel Tablet personally, but I will definitely keep an eye out for it in local tech stores.

I mean who knows, maybe I like the device so much that I buy it there and then!

As much as I love the fact that Google seems to be targeting home users with this tablet, I would also like them to cater for productivity and creative people. I would love for Google to introduce a stylus and maybe even a keyboard.
